I wanted to share with you some of my newest creations. Most of my plates, bowls and other pieces of glass are formed by a unique glass bending technique — A sheet of flat glass is melted over a ceramic mold and fired at such a high temperature (1350F) that precious metals become permanently fused to the glass. The result differs from traditional hand blowing not only in its special translucent textured finish but also in its remarkable durability: the glass becomes tarnish and chip resistant – and dishwasher safe.
But not long ago, I purchased a waterjet machine, which is able to cut endlessly intricate
designs into glass with 90,000 of pressure per square inch. It means that I can create many more shapes. And one of the things that I wanted to be able to do was create some letters. I love the idea of putting together big letters to send a message, spell a name, or make a sign. My upcoming “Text” Collection is an edited selection of upper and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. I had the most fun with the symbols, and wanted to be able to use four of them to form the texting symbol for”Curse” — @$%&. I don’t know about you but I often find myself texting that particular phrase!
