Today’s Stop: Birmingham

aLvH914gVnHu2G-Irj2ieXNm_6P0tKvmXNq4hoXqqsAI’m having such a great time on my trunk show through the South, I’ll have lots of stories and photos to share when I get  a break. Today I’m Birmingham  one of my favorite shops:  Table Matters. Patricia consistently puts together fabulous tables with well thought out combinations of hard to find china, glass and linens. I confess my weakness for her napkin ring choices. I always get another set whenever I am in town.  www.tablematters.com — I’ll be  there from 1pm until 4pm!

First Stop: Tupelo, Mississippi

timthumb-1I’m excited to be starting my trunk show tour in Tupelo, Mississippi at the fabulous Elizabeth Clair’s. Tupelo is the birthplace of Elvis Presley and home to the museum of the same name.  I have been coming here for 10 or 12 years and have added to my Elvis memorabilia….and found some killer gifts for my  friends & gift closet.

I like the museum because it is small. It has the tiny 2 room cottage he was born in.

It has gotten more sophisticated since I first came here, less home made displays but still pretty eye opening.

On my first trip I bought too much and had to haul my Elvis in his gold suit  pillow everywhere, including the flight home. It would not fit in my bags. It was a real conversion starter!

The Well Traveled Plate

I was delighted to hear this story about an Annieglass 3 part tray that traveled back and forth between Santa Cruz to London 5 times!

Bob Millslagle of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk purchased a gift from my store for some friends in London and took it to be shipped to them  —we do not do international shipping.

There was something wrong with the address and the package came back from London and it was returned to Bob in California. Determined to get his gift to his friends, Bob then reshipped the tray back to London. But once again it was returned to him in California. How many miles is that? And in the same box with absolutely no damage!

Finally Bob just waited and gave it to the lucky and (hard to locate) recipient, who then hand carried the well traveled piece back to London. More than 30,000 miles the tray is safe and sound and finally home in London.
