Dos and Don’ts Of Your Bridal Registry
Now that peak proposal season is coming to a close, an even more exciting period begins: Wedding planning time! Once you’ve spread the news to your loved ones and started thinking about dates, one of your first tasks is the Bridal registry. Here’s a few preliminary dos and don’ts to help you navigate your way through this exciting but somewhat daunting task:
Do register at least six months before your wedding date to give your guests the chance to shop from your registry for bridal showers and engagement parties.
Don’t register during your lunch hour — that’s not enough time to peruse and choose. Allow plenty of time to decide what your wedding gift wish list will be. Call ahead for an appointment with the bridal registrar.
Don’t bring along your mother, sister or best friend. Too many opinions will make this even more confusing. You and your partner should be the ones registering. You are starting a life together and sharing a home, it only makes sense to figure this out together. Don’t forget to practice the fine art of compromise together!
Do sit down with your fiancé and talk about your likes and dislikes, how you envision yourselves entertaining, if any, differently than how you do now. Think about future holidays and family get-togethers as well as parties and Sunday dinners.
Don’t limit your wish list. Go ahead and register for that one of a kind hand blown vase. Or limited edition Annieglass! It’s called a wish list for a reason.
Do get organized. Treat your bridal registry with a professional attitude, the way you would a work project. Keep track of what you receive and from whom, and check off your thank-you notes as you send them.
Do ask your bridal registrar for help with gifts for your bridesmaids and groomsmen. And don’t forget thank you gifts for those who gave showers or parties in your honor. I think that engraved messages of thanks on Annieglass make some of the most special gifts. Consider giving hearts engraved with your names, wedding date and thanks to your bridesmaids for sharing your big day.

Engaged For Valentine’s Day?
Did you or someone you know get engaged last night? Winter tends to be the most popular time for marriage proposals, beginning with the holidays and ending this week. Some people even call it engagement season. According to a recent survey six million Americans were expecting or planning a marriage proposal on Valentine’s Day, two million more than last year! If you were one of those six million we would love to hear your engagement story!
Wedding Wednesdays: What Color Is Your Gown
Ever since Jessica Biel was on the cover of People magazine last week wearing her rosy pink wedding gown, the bridal blogs have been abuzz about the choice of color other than white for her gown. Anne Hathaway also was recently married in a flowing pink gown, and Reese Witherspoon also wed in a blush-colored dress. And bridal designer Vera Wang has been regularly featuring gowns in black, crimson and cream in her bridal shows.
Wedding gowns were not always white. Prior to the Victorian era, a bride was married in any color — black dresses were especially popular in Scandinavia. White became a popular choice in 1840, after the marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe-Coburg. Victoria wore a white gown because she wanted to incorporate some prized lace. She started a trend and a tradition was born. But in many Eastern cultures multi-colored wedding gowns are the norm, and things seem to be changing for U.S. brides as well. Would you wear a non-white wedding gown?
Wedding Wednesdays: Incorporating Fall In Your Wedding Decor
This beautiful table at Quintessentials was decorated for my visit there a few weeks ago and Halloween, but it also got me thinking about how many of the elements and ideas here could be used as inspiration for an autumnal dinner party, a holiday table, or even a Fall wedding reception. The wedding blog Brooklyn Bride has this article about 6 Ways to Bring Fall Into Your Wedding. She suggests adding colorful gourds to your table, preserving fall leaves in wax to use in decorations, adding wheat or Fall foliage to your bouquet. What are your favorite Fall decorating tips?
Wedding Wednesday: Putting Your Personal Touch On The Menu
Did you see this interesting article on theKitchn.com with suggestions on how couples can put a personal touch on the wedding meal? Such a nice idea to include foods that were part of your courtship and life together. The writer and his wife served pretzels that reminded them of a trip to Germany; grilled pizzas because it is their favorite thing to cook together and sliders because the groom first won his wife over when he grilled some burgers on a snowy day while they were living in Minnesota. A sweet and romantic story with some great ideas, what would you serve to represent your relationship?
